Kinship Care was started in July 2021 after the devastation caused by Covid – to support children below 12 years who had lost one or both parents with a commitment to be with these children all the way through school and college. 2071 children from 1187 families across 22 districts are benefitting at present.
SOCIAL WORKERS DELIVER OUR SERVICES TO THE “VIRTUAL HOMES”

Surviving parents receive counselling support to deal with the trauma of bereavement. They also get help to effectively deal with various stages of child development including early parenting and development, adolescent issues, career choices, behaviourial issues, how to face exams, how to stay away from distractions etc.

FINANCIAL
Children receive support by way of school fees, after school tuition fees,van/ auto fees, as needed. Select families also receive livelihood support to enable them to augment their income. For easy access to the various online classes, monthly mobile top up is also done.In a few cases we have provided mobile phones.

EDUCATION
In addition to the school curriculum, we run online programmes, with the help of volunteers, to teach Foundational skills in Tamil, English and Maths. Lessons are delivered one on one, through virtual meets to groups of children, while self learning is also encouraged where appropriate. We provide Tablets and Laptops to the children for this.

HOLISTIC
Social Workers prepare the IndividualChild Plan (ICP) to decide on the kind of support each child needs. Data is updated and reviewed regularly. Special needs as well as talent is supported through special programmes. Get-togethers and medical camps are organised on a periodic basis. We’re also there for families in case of an emergency.
